About CMC

Colchester Malayalee Community (CMC), established in 2006, is a vibrant and inclusive non-profit cultural association dedicated to supporting individuals and families of Malayalee heritage in and around Colchester. Our mission is to promote the cultural, educational, social, and economic welfare of our community while preserving the rich traditions of Kerala.

Each year, CMC hosts a wide range of events from major festivals like Onam, Christmas, Easter, Eid, and Vishu to youth programs, cultural showcases, and charitable initiatives. We aim to nurture a strong sense of unity and belonging, providing opportunities for our members especially children to explore and express their talents in dance, music, drama, and more.

CMC is more than a cultural hub; it’s a platform for connection, celebration, and contribution to the wider society. Together, we celebrate our roots, support one another, and grow as a community.

Mission & Objectives

The community’s mission is centered on three main pillars:

Cultural Preservation: To celebrate and maintain the rich heritage of Kerala through major festivals like Onam, Vishu, Eid, Christmas, and Easter, and to pass these traditions to the younger generation.

Community Support & Welfare: To provide a safety net for its members. This is evidenced by their active fundraising for repatriation expenses in times of tragedy and their historical support for Kerala flood relief efforts.

Social Integration & Networking: To act as a platform for families to connect, share resources, and support one another in navigating life in the UK.

Key Facts

Affiliation: A member of UUKMA East Anglia, collaborating closely with other Malayalee associations across the East Anglian region to strengthen the diaspora network.

Values: A non-profit, secular, and apolitical group that celebrates Kerala’s diverse religious and cultural festivals to foster inclusivity.
